An allergy is a type of immune reaction. Normally, the immune system responds to foreign microorganisms or particles by producing specific proteins called anti-bodies. These antibodies are capable of binding to identifying molecules, or antigens, on the foreign particle. This reaction between antibody and antigen sets off a series of chemical reactions designed to protect the body from infection. Sometimes, this same series of reactions is triggered by harmless, everyday substances such as pollen, dust. When this occurs, an allergy develops against the offending sub-stance (an allergen.)

LORATADINE (Claritin) is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Loratadine is used to treat the symptoms of allergies, such as sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose. It is also used to treat skin hives and itching in people with chronic skin reactions.
CYPROHEPTADINE (Periactin®) is an antihistamine. It relieves symptoms of hay fever (seasonal rhinitis), hives (rash or itching), inflammation of the eyes (pink eye, allergic conjunctivitis), and other mild allergic conditions
PROMETHAZINE (Phenergan®) is an antihistamine. It relieves moderate to severe allergic reactions, reduces or prevents nausea and vomiting from illness or motion sickness, helps to make you sleep before surgery, and may help with pain relief or nausea after surgery
MONTELUKAST (Singulair) is used for prevention and long-term treatment of asthma. It is also used to relieve allergy symptoms. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by blocking a substance called leukotriene, which helps to decrease certain asthma and allergy symptoms.
